Description

Not two decades ago, agile software development started as a kind of grassroots movement. Today, the deployment of agile methods is developing to a strategic topic. This is intensified through the fact that particularly a lot of nameable companies have successfully finished the experimental phase with agile methods and extend them now in the broadness. Global Corporations are collaborating with the protagonists of the formerly “grassroots” initiatives. SAP AG for example has become a major sponsor of the agile community in Germany. This has sustainable effects on the work of IT-specialists und their qualification requirements are changing considerably. Companies and universities have to adapt to these changes for mediating their employees and students these required basics for such an expansive change of the organization of work. The most important player in Agile Software Engineering is the development team. A set of Best Practices for Empowered Agile Development Teams will be presented. I will demonstrate that the transition to “Agile Software Engineering” requires a holistic approach. Agile Software Engineering touches different spheres: technology, engineering principles, craftmanship, team organization, social cooperation in workaday life, interaction crossing cultural boundaries.
